If I hear "how much wood" one more time I am gonna ...

This book certainly has variety.
One song featured a whole tone scale that I thought was pretty cool.

My daughter's favorite song was about a woodchuck.
She would sing in a raucous voice while she played.
Her teacher (as the book suggests) had her play it in minor as well.
She made up new words for that version about how the woodchuck died.

Another standout is Aardvark Boogie with the big left hand position change.
The other songs, some of which are not about small mammals, are good, too.

Piano Adventures Lesson Book is solid!

I have been teaching piano at the beginner and intermediate levels for ten years. I find the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures Lesson Book to be thorough with regard to well-rounded piano instruction. Their newer version duplicates some of the supplemental materials that I provide (i.e., pentachords, scales, I-IV-V chords), which my students learn far in advance of the book's timeline. By the time most of my students complete level 2A, they have memorized all the major pentachords and scales and are working on the minor keys. Still, for under $8 per lesson book, this series is affordable and packed with songs that my students enjoy learning. I appreciate the massive efforts of Faber & Faber to make piano study fun and steadily progressive.

Pretty good!!

I've been a nurse for some years, always worked with tele patients. I've never taken a 12-lead EKG class. Another RN had a different EKG book she was reading, I went ahead & read the 1st chapter. I thought that author made it fun. The only thing was it was one of those fill in the blank books, which i found myself trying harder to figure out the right word than understanding the concept. I'm pretty glad I purchased this one. I think this author is very matter-of-fact, again making the concepts easy, & I like his case studies. Before I started reading EKGs, they were just a bunch of squiggly lines, and after reading the book, they were still a bunch of squiggly lines, but I felt more educated. I'm reading it a second time, so that I can see why the lines between hypertrophies & MIs are different, which are making me say,"oh yeah, i get it." I'm also reading the 12-leads from my patients charts (before I read what the machine says), and getting most of them :)

Great book.

Perfect book for nurses and medical students. The writing is engaging and humorous, and the lessons progress in a logical manner. I already had a good handle on EKGs before purchasing this book, but it would be good for an absolute beginner as well. You won't need anything more than this book to be comfortable and proficient with EKGs.

Good for beginners or wanting to learn more

I am a paramedic and love this book only because it helped with school and still has some good information for reference. This book isn't your solve all problems book but it is a great book to teach you and get you started on understanding ECG rhythms and will help you in the future of your medical career. This book helped our class out a lot only because our paramedic books only went over the minimal requirements and most of us wanted to learn more and advance our knowledge and this book did in fact help. Again if you are learning ECG and already know it and want to learn more into it than this book is for you. I have this book sitting on my shelf in case I even forget something or see something new and want to know why it happened or what it means. Good reference material.

ben and holly fun

My daughter loves this book, and has made her poor grandfather read it about one thousand times, making it well worth our purchase price, it's fun, has games and activities and a few stories. my only wish is that is had more stories, but it's absolutely her favorite book right now, and she has no complaints. The result is a welcome multidisciplinary approach that shows us the extensive roles nonhuman animals play in virtually all areas of our lives. The essays are well reasoned and often extensive; "Animal Cognition," for example, is followed by five additional essays, all penned by different contributors, with such titles as "Intelligence" and "Consciousness and Thinking." A chronology of historical events related to animal rights and animal welfare is included, as is an appendix that lists resources on animal welfare and humane education. Although this volume is not encyclopedic, as in covering all facets of animal welfare, it does have good descriptions of the animal rights movement, especially its impact on some types of medical research.

Entries were chosen "by going through numerous books and essays and listing the topics that were covered in these works." Examples include animal boredom, genetic engineering, Humane Slaughter Act, hunting, and rodeos. Some longer discussions, such as animal cognition, are divided into several subsections with different contributors. There are numerous short biographies of persons whose work influenced the animal rights movement, such as Charles Darwin and Leo Tolstoy; only deceased persons are covered. For the most part, the contributors have been careful to present differing viewpoints. Most entries have a short selective bibliography. There is a chronology at the beginning of the volume and a list of resources following the A^-Z entries. These resources include an annotated directory of organizations involved in animal welfare and humane education, as well as print source material. The volume concludes with an index and a list of contributors.

A number of these contributors are professors of philosophy, and many of the entries are steeped in philosophical argument and explanation that, while important to understanding one or more views of the animal rights movement, also put up barriers to popular consideration. In addition to discussions of animal shelters, mice as laboratory animals, vegetarianism, and zoos, there are entries for deep ethology, painism, sentientism, and virtue ethics. The language and the level of discussion make the book more appropriate for academic libraries than for school and public libraries.
