Zimmerman, et al explain retail accounting very well

I purchased this book in order to write a research paper describing the unique characteristics of retail accounting. The amount of information I got was amazing. The authors clearly identify all the sources of information a retailer would need to properly manage their ledgers and employees. Topics ranging from the Open to Buy to Push Money are explained in detail as well as how the different topics relate to each other. Retailing terminology is used throughout the book which made it easy for me to draw parallels between the book and the way my company does business. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in working in the retail industry or starting their own retail company.

I found this book to be extremely helpful when I started in retail in 1990. However, when I refer to it now it is very outdated. Retail has changed a great deal in 10 years. In my opinion, this book is overpriced.

About the Author
Dick Nelson is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a former Navy fighter pilot. During his combat service in Vietnam, flying the supersonic F-8E Crusader from an aircraft carrier, Nelson was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, thirteen Air Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V", the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross, and other decorations. After his Navy service, Nelson was a commercial pilot with Continental Airlines, and then attended the UCLA School of Law. As a litigator of high-stakes cases in California, he specialized in the legal areas of employment, business, and trade secrets. Moving to Florida in 2005, Nelson worked for the Dept. of Homeland Security. Now retired, Nelson is also the author of The Contrail Chronicles: An American Family's Journey Through War And Peace.

A Thriller that Thrills

It is rare to read a military-technical thriller that combines strong characterization, a fluid prose style, and themes taken directly from recent newspaper headlines. Dick Nelson has managed this trifecta with his THE TROJAN HORSE CONSPIRACY. The plot, of course, is a reference to the ancient tale of how the Greeks managed to hide soldiers within a wooden horse to capture the armed fortress that was Troy. Nelson has updated this simple plot device in ways that spin out plot complications that carry the reader through some surprising twists. The book is roughly divided into two sections: the first details the birth, growth, education, and political career of the first African-American president of the United States. In this novel, he is called Sam Basi. Without giving too much of the plot away, Nelson presents Basi as an Obama-type president, who is constantly running the White House and possessing a political philosophy that is clearly meant to refer to the current POTUS. The second half shifts focus as the United States must somehow counter a new and insidious coalition between Russia and China. As one might expect, this shift necessarily alters the dramatic dynamics from political philosophizing to slam-bang action. What I found chilling was Nelson's penchant for having his characters actually talk to one another while outlining their political and economic goals. In one particularly relevant scene, Nelson actually presents what is nothing less than an executive summary of how a dupe in the White House could topple the United States in its entirety without the need to fire a single shot. THE TROJAN HORSE CONSPIRACY makes no pretense to be other than an old-fashioned paean to pass� patriotism. For readers who are aware of and unhappy with the current state of political and economic affairs of this country and wish to partake of a thoroughly enjoyable action novel, Dick Nelson's book is a fine place to begin.

The new Tom Clancy

Dick Nelson's Trojan Horse Conspiracy catapulted him to be the new Tom Clancy of techno-thriller books. This techo-political-espionage story kept me up late at night, unable to stop reading. Given my prior involvement in national security/intelligence activities, I marveled at the credibility of spy operations he presents, the rapid pace of the plot, his attention to detail which added a special flair, the number of subplots that keep the reader guessing, and the relevance to current national security issues. Not only has Nelson done his homework, but presents the story in an exciting, credible, and often frightening way (for our nation's continued survival). Every lover of techno-thrillers should read this book. Better yet, every American should read this book. While fiction, the story compels the reader to keeping asking whether it is truth or fiction. There is only a thin line between the two.

Art Meets Life
A new gifted writer, Dick Nelson, with remarkable insight into the recent historical events in America has delivered a very entertaining novel to the reading public's hands. The Trojan Horse Conspiracy: The infiltration and destruction of American Democracy, makes the reader wonder how Nelson came onto the secret details and facts that are, so he writes, embedded in the events of our history for the past half century.
Dick Nelson is a former Navy fighter pilot, airline pilot, attorney, and business man that as a Naval Academy graduate has broad knowledge of all things military, law enforcement, international terror, and home grown nefarious political plots that most of the public has some knowledge about. And this is a work of fiction, a detail easily forgotten, as you are caught up with the fast paced news story writing style loaded with facts, details, actual addresses of terrorist boat docks, safe houses, and names.
The story involves the Russians and the Chinese and their actions to implement a far reaching plan to plant someone on the political path to the White House to destroy democracy and freedom in America. How could this plan possibly work? Could there really be sufficient willing "fellow travelers" and communist agents in America to support such a plan over the years it would take to develop into reality. The parallels to today's commonly known facts remove any disbelief of the reader that this plan is plausible, workable, and perhaps inevitable.
The book's flow of facts and action are very well paced and keeps one turning the pages into the night. There is neither slow down in reader interest nor flat writing in the middle of the book often seen in many Techno-Thrillers. As the story unfolds the major events come faster and faster and with only a few pages to go I wondered if he could really wrap up the story to my satisfaction. Nelson delivered handsomely in the end.
The book left me disturbed by how close his events are to the actual historical events. Does Nelson have special inside facts that ties everything from JFK's death, to the TWA 800 shoot down, to political players on the front pages today, together in a sinister plot that endangers the future of American democracy?
I suggest you read The Trojan Horse Conspiracy by Dick Nelson to find out. It is a fine book and I eagerly await a sequel that I hope is in the works.

Fun, but a little too easy

This product was really great, but I was expecting something with a little more difficult and challenging songs to play. The songs are easier to play than the original pieces if you have heard the actual music, but some are not in the same key or have the same effect as the originals. I would recommend this for someone who wanted to get a base for a cover of the songs or if they were beginner pianists. If you are looking for a serious arrangement of your favorite songs that will take you a week to learn, this isn't what you want. If you are just beginning and you want to get psyched about playing the piano, this is a good purchase.

A scam filled with misspellings, bad grammar usage and typos.

What a letdown!! I must remember that in this day and age, ANYONE can write and publish a book! This "thing" reads like a grade school essay that received a grade of D. It is just a collection of a few simple ideas that have been around forever! On top of that, bad punctuation, language usage and typos make it impossible to apply the author's elementary techniques to his own work! Another thing.... In this age of technological innovation, there is NO reason for a written work to contain misspelled words. Even phones have spell check. It is obvious that the author slapped this together to make a few bucks! He/she does not know the topic nor do they care if the public gains improvement or not. Those star ratings are a scam! I want my money back!! Shopper, be wise and save yours!

Mr. Collins does a great job in this book. He covers all the basic topics of reading comprehension, and even learning comprehension, period. Lots of good information. The material is organized in a easily to digest way. A lot of good reminders too. Worth checking out, and using as a reference guide. The thing about information like this is that its easy to understand and take in at first, but the key is remembering to implement them.

Comprehensive but a bit difficult to understand sometimes

I dabble in electronics as a hobby so a lot of times I will come across something with which I am unfamiliar. In those instances, a good reference is indispensable. I browsed this dictionary in a store once, and the entries I happened to look up were concise and thorough. However, it didn't seem worth the hundred dollars they were asking in the store (especially since the latest edition is over ten years old) so I picked it up on Amazon for about half that. After using it for a while I have discovered that some of the entries use language that is a bit technical for the hobbyist, but I can usually figure out what it is conveying if I think about it for a while, and perhaps cross-reference the material with another source like the Illustrated Encyclopedic Dictionary of Electronics by John Douglas-Young (which is written very clearly, but is much less comprehensive, with fewer entries, and is over twenty years old). I would actually give this book three and half stars. It's pretty good but not great.

Fang Fu Ruan first surveys the ancient assumptions and beliefs, then carries the story to present-day China with brief descriptions of homosexuality, lesbianism, transvestism, transsexualism, and prostitution, and ends with a chapter on changing attitudes toward sex in China today. Dr. Ruan is well qualified to give such an overview. Until he left China in the 1980s, he was a leader in attempting to change the repressive attitudes of the government toward human sexuality. He wrote a best� selling book on sex in China, and had written to and corresponded with a number of people in China who considered him as confidant and ad� visor about their sex problems. A physician and medical historian, Dr. Ruan's doctoral dissertation was a study of the history of sex in China.

An excellent overview of sexuality in China

This book offers an excellent overview of the various aspects of sexuality throughout the written history of china. It covers the Chinese view of sex and gender orientation from the later Han dynasty to modern times. The book is well written and organized, with wide range of topics. I used this book as a reference for my Masters in Oriental Medicine thesis on the Chinese medicine treatment of impotence.
