About the Author
Dick Nelson is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a former Navy fighter pilot. During his combat service in Vietnam, flying the supersonic F-8E Crusader from an aircraft carrier, Nelson was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, thirteen Air Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V", the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross, and other decorations. After his Navy service, Nelson was a commercial pilot with Continental Airlines, and then attended the UCLA School of Law. As a litigator of high-stakes cases in California, he specialized in the legal areas of employment, business, and trade secrets. Moving to Florida in 2005, Nelson worked for the Dept. of Homeland Security. Now retired, Nelson is also the author of The Contrail Chronicles: An American Family's Journey Through War And Peace.

A Thriller that Thrills

It is rare to read a military-technical thriller that combines strong characterization, a fluid prose style, and themes taken directly from recent newspaper headlines. Dick Nelson has managed this trifecta with his THE TROJAN HORSE CONSPIRACY. The plot, of course, is a reference to the ancient tale of how the Greeks managed to hide soldiers within a wooden horse to capture the armed fortress that was Troy. Nelson has updated this simple plot device in ways that spin out plot complications that carry the reader through some surprising twists. The book is roughly divided into two sections: the first details the birth, growth, education, and political career of the first African-American president of the United States. In this novel, he is called Sam Basi. Without giving too much of the plot away, Nelson presents Basi as an Obama-type president, who is constantly running the White House and possessing a political philosophy that is clearly meant to refer to the current POTUS. The second half shifts focus as the United States must somehow counter a new and insidious coalition between Russia and China. As one might expect, this shift necessarily alters the dramatic dynamics from political philosophizing to slam-bang action. What I found chilling was Nelson's penchant for having his characters actually talk to one another while outlining their political and economic goals. In one particularly relevant scene, Nelson actually presents what is nothing less than an executive summary of how a dupe in the White House could topple the United States in its entirety without the need to fire a single shot. THE TROJAN HORSE CONSPIRACY makes no pretense to be other than an old-fashioned paean to pass� patriotism. For readers who are aware of and unhappy with the current state of political and economic affairs of this country and wish to partake of a thoroughly enjoyable action novel, Dick Nelson's book is a fine place to begin.

The new Tom Clancy

Dick Nelson's Trojan Horse Conspiracy catapulted him to be the new Tom Clancy of techno-thriller books. This techo-political-espionage story kept me up late at night, unable to stop reading. Given my prior involvement in national security/intelligence activities, I marveled at the credibility of spy operations he presents, the rapid pace of the plot, his attention to detail which added a special flair, the number of subplots that keep the reader guessing, and the relevance to current national security issues. Not only has Nelson done his homework, but presents the story in an exciting, credible, and often frightening way (for our nation's continued survival). Every lover of techno-thrillers should read this book. Better yet, every American should read this book. While fiction, the story compels the reader to keeping asking whether it is truth or fiction. There is only a thin line between the two.

Art Meets Life
A new gifted writer, Dick Nelson, with remarkable insight into the recent historical events in America has delivered a very entertaining novel to the reading public's hands. The Trojan Horse Conspiracy: The infiltration and destruction of American Democracy, makes the reader wonder how Nelson came onto the secret details and facts that are, so he writes, embedded in the events of our history for the past half century.
Dick Nelson is a former Navy fighter pilot, airline pilot, attorney, and business man that as a Naval Academy graduate has broad knowledge of all things military, law enforcement, international terror, and home grown nefarious political plots that most of the public has some knowledge about. And this is a work of fiction, a detail easily forgotten, as you are caught up with the fast paced news story writing style loaded with facts, details, actual addresses of terrorist boat docks, safe houses, and names.
The story involves the Russians and the Chinese and their actions to implement a far reaching plan to plant someone on the political path to the White House to destroy democracy and freedom in America. How could this plan possibly work? Could there really be sufficient willing "fellow travelers" and communist agents in America to support such a plan over the years it would take to develop into reality. The parallels to today's commonly known facts remove any disbelief of the reader that this plan is plausible, workable, and perhaps inevitable.
The book's flow of facts and action are very well paced and keeps one turning the pages into the night. There is neither slow down in reader interest nor flat writing in the middle of the book often seen in many Techno-Thrillers. As the story unfolds the major events come faster and faster and with only a few pages to go I wondered if he could really wrap up the story to my satisfaction. Nelson delivered handsomely in the end.
The book left me disturbed by how close his events are to the actual historical events. Does Nelson have special inside facts that ties everything from JFK's death, to the TWA 800 shoot down, to political players on the front pages today, together in a sinister plot that endangers the future of American democracy?
I suggest you read The Trojan Horse Conspiracy by Dick Nelson to find out. It is a fine book and I eagerly await a sequel that I hope is in the works.
